Joshua 7:10 KJV “And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?”
Now in case y’all are wondering I’m going to give you a little background on this verse. Not too long ago the children of Israel defeated the city of Jericho in a miraculous showing of God strength. The fighting men of Israel numbered about 600,000 strength, but it wasn’t by their strength that the city of Jericho was destroyed. You see, they marched around the city in obedience to God and He leveled the city walls for them. Next up was the city of Ai. Riding on the high off their previous victory they decided to send only three thousand men the battle. 36 Israeli men died, and the rest fled in terror. Following this defeat Joshua fell to his face in prayer before Almighty God. And God’s response was, “GET THEE UP,……Israel hath sinned”
Enter a man named Achan. One man in the entire nation decided to disobey God, he kept possessions from Jericho even though they were directly commanded to destroy everything. But how could this be, why would God punish an entire nation for one man’s sin? Achan’s sin was 7 fold. #1 he was covetous #2 he disobeyed God’s command #3 he transgressed God’s covenant #4 he stole from God #5 he was untruthful #6 he served self rather than God #7 he dishonored God’s name.
I reckon you can see already exactly where I’m going with this. The question is….”Will God judge an entire nation fer the sin of one person?” And the answer is an adamant YES!!! We wonder why the hand of God is judging this nation and we can look at the life of Achan and understand just a little better. We mock the name of God as we violate His commands. We take the lives of innocent babies and think there will be no consequence. We allow sin and immorality to run rampant among our children and think, “oh well, they’re just being kids”. Achan ended up getting his entire family stoned to death because of his actions. Now, thank God we don’t live by those same standards anymore but think about it. We are forcing punishment upon our families by allowing these sins into our very homes.
Now the next question… is there a remedy? And the answer is ABSOLUTELY!! The remedy is simple, remove the sin from our lives and purify our hearts for God. And stop measuring ourselves against others. Ya see, if you measure a crooked stick with a crooked stick you end up with, two crooked sticks. There is only one measuring device and that is the Word of God!
So I challenge all of y’all. GET OFF YOUR FACES AND GET SOMETHING DONE!! IT’S TIME FOR REPENTANCE AND ACTION!!
